Porchlight Parallax

Porchlight Parallax is a competition proposal for a new kiosk to mark the entry of the Socrates Sculpture Park in Long Island City, Queens.

The design is deeply rooted in our appreciation for the context and mission of Socrates Sculpture Park. The proposal utilizes Socrates’ iconic orange metal mesh combined with cedar shingles stained by the local community. This material strategy relates to the wider context and history of the Queens waterfront: industrial and resilient, yet welcoming and richly textured by Queens inhabitants.

The parallelogram shape of the kiosk provides employees with a clear view of the grounds while ensuring signage and information is easily visible to visitors.
